British Council Awards

The British Council Awards provide an opportunity for Iranian academics to present their papers and become familiar with other professionals in international Seminars and conferences held in the UK.

A number of prestigious awards funded by BC, Iran are offered to Iranian nationals, who are members of universities recognised by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology or the Ministry of Health, and Medical Sciences. The awards are available from April 2007 until the end of February 2008.

Applications from all academic fields will be considered. The amount awarded is £800 which will cover travel and expenses up to a week in the UK. If the conference fee and other expenses exceed £800, applicants should present official documents regarding any supplementary funding to support their applications.

The scholars will be assisted to obtain their UK visas and will be introduced to British Airways for a small discount when purchasing their ticket.

Application criteria

  • Applicants should be official members of universities recognised by the Ministries of Health and Science and Technology.
  • Applicants should provide the British Council, Iran with a proposal on the outcome of attending the conference in regard to collaborations between UK and Iranian universities.
  • Applicants must have a good command of English in order to be able to present an academic paper or be part of professional gatherings.
  • Anyone who is entitled to receive full financial support from universities or Ministries should not apply for this award
  • All scholars who receive the British Council award should provide a brief report to the scholarships unit of the British Council, Iran within ten days of their return.

How to apply

Applicants must e-mail the completed Application Form with an updated CV attached, approximately two months before the start date of seminars or conferences to the following e-mail address:

Completing the application form

Applicants are required to fill the application form correctly and be able to provide supporting documents upon request. The information on the application form will be treated as confidential. Applicants are requested to read the Data Protection Note carefully before submitting the form.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate in the personal statement section of the form, that they have thought carefully about their chosen subject and the significance of the conference they wish to attend. It is also essential that applicants explain their personal objectives, the importance of attending the conference and their future plans.
