The Best of British drama

Britain has a long and varied theatrical tradition. We aim to present a new range of creative, innovative and contemporary British theatre in order to enhance social and cultural links with Iran.

We work in conjunction with Iranian organisations such as the Dramatic Arts Centre to bring British productions to the attention of the Iranian public and assist with theatre companies wishing to participate in Iranian festivals.

The annual International Fajr Theatre Festival, held in January, attracts a large international following. In January 2003, the British Council was instrumental in bringing the Dundee Rep Theatre company to Tehran, where they perfomed William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale.

The Dramatic Arts Centre also organises a bi-annual International Puppet Festival in Tehran. The most recent festival was held in Tehran in September 2002.
