Turning Points an exciting exhibition of 20th Century Sculpture from Britain in Iran was a partnership effort between the British Council, London and the British Council, Tehran with the collaboration of our friends in Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. In this exhibition, the diversity of valuable works from famous artists was a highlight of the event. Artists such as Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth (post-war period who had a strong influence on other artists like Eduardo Paolozzi and Anthony Caro) are some of the well-known British artists whose works were shown in this exhibition. There were also works from Barry Flanagan, Richard Long, Gilbert & George, Bill Woodrow, Tony Cragg, Richard Deacon, Anish Kapoor, Mona Hatoum, Damien Hirst and Anya Gallaccio. The presence of the latest work of Shirazeh Houshiary an artist of Iranian origin, definitely added to the value of this collection. The exhibition was held at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art from 24 February - 16 April 2004. Art is one of the most influential ways in which ideas pass between nations, we hope that further joint art activities between the UK and Iran will be inspired by this exhibition, and we are optimistic that this event will lead to a greater mutual understanding between the cultures in Iran and Britain. |
