- The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organisation for educational and cultural relations.
- The British Council aims to connect people worldwide with learning opportunities and creative ideas from the UK and build lasting relationships between the UK and other countries.
- The British Council was founded in 1934 and is registered in England as a charity.
- The British Council has offices in 109 countries world-wide.
- The Foreign & Commonwealth Office provides the British Council with an annual grant.
- We also receive income from other UK government departments & agencies, international bodies, and from the private sector.
- We earn the rest of our revenue (40%) from selling services such as project management, UK-based training, English language courses & examinations.
- The British Council first operated in Iran in 1942 and had a presence in Iran until 1979.
- The British Council was invited back to Tehran in March 2001.
- The present office was officially opened to the public in October 2001.
- We are located in the British Embassy's northern compound, in Tehran.
- We are here to build links between the people of Iran and the people of the UK.
- Our aim is to create enduring partnerships between Britain and Iran in education, culture and science & technology.

- We do not have a borrowing library (although we do have a reference library)
