Good ideas, but hard to sell. This is not a rare case. The usual suspects are unattractive selling methods, or the lack of necessary network supports. Do not let your good and useful ideas get wasted, see what we have in store.
World Café
A workshop session which allows the participants to discuss and chat casually, as if in a cafe. Participants are divided into five or six groups. After fifteen minutes, participants move around to different tables, except for one host participant on each table. This is a proven method to build network and absorb ideas in an optimum and effective way.
Pecha Kucha
A public presentation with 20 slides, where every slide is shown for 20 seconds, therefore totalling only 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Derived phonetically from “pe-chak-cha” (a Japanese term for the sound of conversations), initiated by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham in Tokyo in 2003 when the two had had enough of listening to their colleagues’ boring long presentations. The Pecha Kucha tight format forces the presenter to stay focused and demand the audience to really pay attention. A good presenter can transform this session into an artistic show. Generally each Pecha Kucha night has 14 presenters. Originally conducted among architects, designers and other creative practitioners, the method has now been adopted by academics and businessmen.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT
A creative business community consisting of around 250 alumni of the IYCE (International Young Creative Entrepreneurs). This community was established to let its members share information and motivations, especially on the creative aspects. They are convinced that creative economy will be one of the major pillars of Indonesia as a nation in the coming years. The community is also open for anyone with similar spirit.
TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design)
An academic unit owned by the non-profit organisation The Sapling Foundation. TED is known as a by-invitation-only annual conference which showcases “ideas worth sharing” (as can be seen in www.TED.com, YouTube, or iTunes), commonly referred to as TED Talks. The power of ideas is believed to change attitudes, lives and finally the world, to be better. Bill Clinton, Bill Gates and Bono are a few among those who have taken parts in the program. There is also TEDx, a programme designed to allow the participants to emulate the TED conference experience.
