We stopped the delivery of all examination services in Indonesia since 31 March 2008.
The British Council remains co-owner and global delivery partner of IELTS, the preferred test for more than 500,000 people around the world every year, and the test remains available in Indonesia through our global delivery partners.
It is our firm belief that Indonesian test users and test takers will continue to receive the support they need. We remain committed to realising opportunities for self-development and will continue to do so through our other programmes.
Why? This decision fits in with our move away from the direct delivery of services towards working on programmes in partnership with local partners. This means we will not retain the capacity to support the provision of examination services.
When? Effectively from the end of March 2008, we ceased the delivery of all examination services in Indonesia and are not entering into new commitments for the provision of such services after 31 March 2008.
What exam products are affected by this decision? IELTS, UK Universities Exams (Heriott-Watt University, Manchester Business School, Open University), Professional Exams (IWCF, ACCA, Institute of Actuaries, IFIA, CIPS), Cambridge International Examination (O-level, A-level and IGCSE).

Does this mean British Council Indonesia has stopped working in English language teaching? No. We are still active in the field of English language teaching. We are working in Primary English language teaching, doing research and trainer-training for Primary English, developing Primary ELT specialists in Samarinda, Surabaya, Jakarta, Makassar and Yogyakarta. We are also developing support materials for Primary teachers such as training materials, workshops, DVDs of Primary lessons and teachers’ resource packs. We are also working with NU in East Java, building training capacity in East Java Pesantren and supporting teachers with materials. Our online materials also offer a wealth of resources for teachers and learners of English.
What about other British Council activities? We remain committed to realising the opportunities for Indonesian self-development and will continue to do so through our programmes in Education, Creative Industries, and Social Development, as well as English.
