Community Entrepreneurs Challenge

On 17 September 2013, British Council and the Arthur Guinness Fund launched the AGF-BC Community Entrepreneurs Challenge (CEC) Wave IV.

AGF-BC CEC is an annual competition held by the Arthur Guinness Fund(TM) and British Council, celebrating social innovation through community enterprises. The competition is designed to identify and support community-based social enterprises that can inspire a generation of potential change makers. These social enterprises are businesses with primarily social objectives, whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community.

Selected community enterprises will be invited to participate in capacity building and networking events and will receive an opportunity to win seed funding with a total value of up to IDR 600,000,000. This year, AGF-BC CEC Wave IV is back with an increased commitment to support women-led social enterprise and community enterprises located in Eastern Indonesia.

Launched in 2010, AGF-BC CEC has provided capacity building to representatives of 200 selected communities and identified 17 best practices of community enterprises from around Indonesia that have received total seed funding of up to GBP 127,000, impacting approximately 24,000 people.

AGF-BC CEC believes in the value of connecting community enterprises with their counterparts from across Indonesia and also those that are in the East Asia Region and UK. Networks and collaborations develop organically throughout the one year duration of the competition.
