We support Indonesia’s recently established Creative Economy Road Map 2010 by providing seminars, training and consultancy for creative industry and government partners mapping the economic potentials of the country’s creative sectors.
The project shares the best practice gained from the 1998 and 2003 creative industries mapping by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport in the UK. Data from the mapping forms the basis for the UK government’s creative economy strategy, which has since made the industry the second largest sector in the country after financial services.
We believe that Indonesia’s abundant natural resources, large manufacturing base, sizeable domestic market, and strong democratic and artistic traditions all have the potential to transform the country into one of the largest creative economies in the world. Initial research already indicates that the country’s creative-related manufacturing may be worth US$ 88 billion – accounting for 33,5% of Indonesia’s GDP and six times that of the oil and natural gas industry (BPS, 2004).
Our pilot project in 2007/2008 sees us partnering with Indonesia’s Forum Graphic Digital. The project will map the economic potentials of the print and graphic industry, which encompasses such high-flying sectors as advertising, graphic service, packaging, the press, printing and publishing. Initial results will be published during the Biannual Digital Graphic Forum Expo in August 2007.
