Biotech Idea to Innovation awards announced!

Three young researchers Sudipta Saha, Indrani Banerjee and Umakant Gupta have been selected by an eminent jury for the Biotech Idea to Innovation awards. Amitabh Gupta has been selected for a special mention Jury award. These awards were presented on 19 February 2007 during the Biotech Idea to Innovation seminar in New Delhi.

Biotech Idea to Innovation

About the programme

The biotechnology and biomedical sector is a priority area of research both in the UK and India. The UK is renowned internationally for cutting edge research in biotechnology and its translation into large scale innovation. India has some of the finest institutions and young researchers working in this area.

With an aim to encourage young Indian researchers and to expose them to the UK’s strength in innovative biotech research, British Council India launched a unique Idea to Innovation programme in the field of biotechnology and biomedical research. The programme has two components:

Idea to Innovation awards
Young Indian researchers were invited to present novel ideas capable of translation into innovation in the fields of Diagnostics/Therapeutics/Vaccines/Drug Delivery system/ bio device which have applications in human and animal healthcare.

Idea to Innovation seminar
19 February 2007
British Council, New Delhi

A seminar on Biotech innovation by top UK and Indian biotech experts was held on 19 February 2007 in New Delhi. Professor Sir Gregory Winter CBE FRS will deliver the key note lecture in this seminar. Sir Greg Winter is the joint Head of the MRC’s Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) Division of Protein and Nucleic Acid Chemistry and Deputy Director of the MRC Centre for Protein Engineering, Cambridge UK. He is a pioneer of the science and application of protein and antibody engineering. He is a prolific inventor and his work includes the invention of the humanised and fully human antibody technologies that are used in over 65% of the antibody products in development or on the market. Dr Greg Winter has also co-founded two antibody biotech start-ups - Cambridge Antibody Technology and Domantis.
