"What struck me most significant about a year of postgraduate studies is the quality of teaching and the excellent academic environment.
I was very lucky to be a part of the Human Rights programme at the University of Essex, where I was not only exposed to intensive academic exercises, but also gained tremendously from the rich field experiences that all my classmates brought with them from the world over.
The University is particularly sensitive to issues of the Third World and encourages interactive mechanisms with students. It made me realise how much each of us share in common with others, irrespective of national boundaries and other racial and cultural differences, which pale into insignificance.
Living in the UK was very smooth - its multi-cultural environment and the phenomenal popularity of Indian food made sure that I was always cooking for friends when I was not studying!
Above all, I am very grateful to the British Council staff for making this experience a memorable one. It's very re-assuring that scholars have access to a free 24 hotline for emergencies. I also enjoyed the various catalogues for holidays and outings we received throughout the year, the guidance from British Council staff in India and the UK, and above all, the financial security of prompt and steady stipends (regular payments)-that contributed towards the entire experience."
