Commonwealth Fellowships are for six months. Awards normally run from October in any year (i.e. the beginning of the academic year in the UK).
Up to 70 Fellowships are available.
General If you are a candidate or sponsor you may indicate your own preferences on what you would like to study and where you would like to study it. If you have already made independent approaches to universities in the UK, or have received offers of places, you should report this to the Commission.
However, the Commission may (after seeking advice in the UK) decide to the offer you a fellowship at another institution. Your fellowship for any programme of study must be approved by the Commission and named in the formal letter of award. You must also be able to demonstrate that your study programme will be closely related to the academic work when you return to take up the award.
Medicine and Dentistry If you are a medically qualified applicant and your programme requires you to practice clinically, or to work in a laboratory department reporting on samples from patients, you can only be considered eligible for registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or the General Dental Council.
For more information write to:
The General Dental Council 37 Wimpole Street London, WIM 8DQ
The General Medical Council Overseas Registration Division 178-202 Great Portland Street London, WIN 6JE
Under new regulations, if you require registration with the General Medical Council and your primary medical qualification is recognised only for limited registration, you will be required to show competence in the English Language by reaching a satisfactory standard in the IELTS Test.
However, if you have previously held registration with the General Medical Council to practice in the UK, you may not be required to take the IELTS Test.

To be selected, you must be an academic staff member of staff and get nominated by the executive head of the university you work full time at. This is followed by shortlisting of applications and personal interviews in New Delhi. |

You must apply for these scholarships at least one year before the course starts.
Deadlines vary, so you must check that you know what the deadline is before applying.
The UGC sends circulars to all universities in July or August every year for nominations
for the awards beginning the following academic year.
The interviews are normally held in November or December for the awards beginning
September in the following year. |
