British Council India
An evidence-based strategy for understanding and improving UK-India cultural relations today for mutual benefit in the future

India-UK Cultural Relations in the 21st Century

ReImagine is a one-year research and dialogue initiative of the British Council and partner organisations in India and the UK. Our partners are Nehru Centre, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Counterpoint and the King’s India Institute, London.
In a world that is rapidly changing healthy cultural relationships between countries are of great importance: they help reduce prejudice and mistrust, allow for the sharing of ideas, knowledge, approaches and solutions in business and politics, and can underpin and facilitate significant increases in trade and tourism – all of which increases the quality and opportunity of people’s lives.
The shared history between India and the UK is rich and important, and the past offers a strong platform for building upon in the future. But the relationship is changing. There is no overarching vision of where the relationship stands today or how it will develop.
Through this initiative we have a unique opportunity to seize the moment and re-imagine a mutually beneficial relationship that values the past while seeking to define the future together in the 21st century.
Below are highlighted the areas of activity under this initiative.
