We would like to thank all the filmmakers for submitting applications. The competition was stiff owing to the overwhelming number of applications received this year. Though initially we had offered four fellowships, but after looking at the impressive proposals we decided to award an additional fellowship under the mitigation theme, increasing the total number of fellowships to five. After two rigorous rounds of screening followed by a round of interviews the following applicants have been awarded the UK Environment Film Fellowships 2010:

Theme - Climate Change Mitigation

  • Madhyama Subramanian  - Her proposed film ‘No Big Footprint’ looks at Surat and unearths the various measures that the city is taking to mitigate Climate Change
  • Nina Subramani – Her film titled ‘Agents of Change’ will bring forth stories from Bangalore and how the residents of the city have taken responsibility and have become the agents of change.
  • Bishnu Dev Halder & Jitendra Adappa – Their film will focus on Green Buildings and how to the cities Kolkata and Mumbai are taking the lead in converting existing buildings green.

Theme – Climate Change & Water

  • Rintu Thomas & Sushmit Ghosh – Their film ‘The Miracle Water Village’ will narrate the story of the village of Hilware Bazar. The village has been awarded the National Water Award and is currently being studied by the World Water Forum for its water practices.
  • Vijay Bedi & Ajay Bedi – Their film titled ‘Vanishing Water bodies of J&K’ explores the plight of the only freshwater source for the valley, the Kolahoi glacier and the wetlands further downstream. The film will also convey the importance of conserving water sources as a mitigation strategy.
