The British Council’s work in literature extends to supporting the Jaipur Literature Festival, probably Asia’s leading literature festival that will see over 160 top flight authors assemble in Jaipur in January. The 2010 Festival is from 21 to 25 January.
Our support helps the Jaipur Literature Festival secure a number of front-ranking UK authors.
In addition, the British Council this year has run a bursary competition, in partnership with Teamwork Films, the producers of JLF, which will allow 18 young members from our library network, between 18 and 35 years of age, to attend the festival in Jaipur.
This supports the reader development aspect of Lit Sutra, our ambitious programme of cultural relations through reading and writing, building on the success of the British Council's festival of Indian writing at London Book Fair 2009.
Ruth Gee, Director British Council India and Sri Lanka, will host the festival lunch on 22 January.
Sujata Sen, Director British Council East India and the programme lead for Lit Sutra, will chair a session on The Queen’s Hinglish, on 22 January at 5.00 p.m. at the Durbar Hall. The speakers at the session are Mark Tully, Prasoon Joshi and Ira Pande.
British Council’s support to UK authors extends across all events featuring them.
(JLF) started in 2004 as an initiative of Jaipur Virasat Foundation , an NGO working in the area of arts and heritage conservation with a strong stress on the livelihood of folk artisans. It is now produced by Teamwork Films, one of the most reputed entertainment production companies in India with international footprint. British Council has been informally associated with JLF since its start. For more information about our presence at Jaipur contact Nibedita Ghosh. |
