We are organising the Third Policy Dialogue on November 18, 19 and 20, 2009 in New Delhi. The dialogue will feature the launch of ‘English Next: India’, which is being published by the British Council and written by David Graddol, a well-known U.K. writer, broadcaster and lecturer. The publication will highlight the status and issues in English language education in India. English Next: India is a sequel to David’s earlier books Future of English in 1997 and English Next in 2006.

The Policy Dialogue will address these issues:

Transforming the workforce for 2020
English in skills for employability: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives
Assessing language skills for employability
Policy implementation: Teacher education programmes
Linking curricular reforms to National Curriculum Framework (NCF)
Teacher education framework: Challenges of implementation
Teacher qualifications and assessment
The future of language teacher education: Methodological choices
Managing educational change

In addition to above, the dialogue aims to highlight challenges and reveal best practices in English language teaching and learning that can benefit the education system, teachers and learners. The recommendations emerging from the Policy Dialogue will be compiled in the form of a report and discussed in-depth with a panel of experts. Thereafter, these inputs will be forwarded to organisations that contribute to policy making in English language teaching and skills development.

We will be webcasting the Policy Dialogue so that the discussions benefit and reach stakeholders across India and globe. If you are interested in the conference or require additional information about it, please contact: Nirupa Fernandez or Alison Barrett
