British Council, Kolkata is the second overseas MRCS (Member of Royal College of Surgeons of England) examination centre after Cairo, Egypt. Intercollegiate MRCS has now replaced the Collegiate MRCS examinations.

What is the structure of Intercollegiate MRCS Examinations?

The new Intercollegiate MRCS has two papers:

  • Part A
  • Part 3/B: Oral, Clinical and Clinical communiation skills

British Council Kolkata hosts both parts of the exam.

What is the time period of completing MRCS?

Candidates who applied under the intercollegiate regulations for Part 3 will have 3 ½ years from their first attempt of Part 2 in which they have to complete all parts of the examination. New Candidates applying for Part B will have a total of 6 attenpts at any of the components of Part B in which to complete all Parts of the examination.

Is IELTS required to do MRCS?

No, but if the candidate is going for limited registration with GMC then IELTS becomes mandatory.

What are the eligibility criteria for taking intercollegiate MRCS?

  • Part A: Candidates are required to have MBBS qualification from a WHO recognised college.
  • Part 3/B: Candidates are required to have MBBS qualification from a WHO recognised college and have passed part A

What is the Fee structure?

MRCS Part A:                 £405 & £30 (or Rs 3000/-)  

The Board fee (£405) is to be paid by a demand draft drawn in favour of ‘The Royal College of Surgeons of England’ payable at UK.

The local fee can either be paid in cash (Rs 3000/-) at British Council Kolkata office or in the form of demand draft (Rs 3000/) drawn in favour of ‘British Council Division’. It can also be paid in pound (£ 30), the demand draft should be drawn in favour of ‘British Council’ payable at UK.

What is the fees structure for MRCS Part 3?

MRCS Part 3 Full £679 &  £ 30 (or Rs 3000/-)
MRCS Part 3 Resit £679 &  £ 30 (or Rs 3000/-)
MRCS Part 3 Clinical & Communication £345 & £30 (or Rs 3000/-)
MRCS Part 3 Communication skills only £120 & £30 (or Rs 3000/-)
MRCS Part 3 Clinical only £225 & £30 (or Rs 3000/-)

   (Please Note - Unsuccessful Oral candidate must apply for the Oral, Clinical and Communication Skills option; Oral only option is not available)
