WHAT IS THE PASSING SCORE IN IELTS?
There is no pass or fail score in IELTS. Universities, embassies or receiving institutions may tell you the band score they require.
HOW ARE THE SCORES PROCESSED?

All IELTS marking is done by certified examiners. Examiners are trained to understand the IELTS assessment criteria and are required to demonstrate that they are marking to standard before they are allowed to mark papers. Examiners are re-trained regularly to ensure that they are marking to the required standard. Systematic monitoring and double marking of a proportion of answer sheets is carried out at each administration.

Get more information about understanding your test scores.

HOW DO I KNOW THAT MY TEST WILL BE MARKED ACCURATELY?
All examiners are trained and recruited according to the strict guidelines set down by the University of Cambridge. Examiners are regularly trained and monitored to ensure that they award scores based on the candidate's performance on the test day. Examiners apply the same assessment criteria to each candidate to ensure fairness.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY ADDRESS CHANGES AFTER I REGISTER?
Make sure you inform the administrator on the test day if your address has changed. If this is not possible, contact your nearest British Council office.
CAN AN ORGANISATION OR INSTITUTION VERIFY MY RESULTS IN ANY OTHER WAY APART FROM RECEIVING A TRF?

All receiving institutions have access to an IELTS verification website which they use to verify your TRF. Organisations can verify the IELTS test scores here.

WHAT CAN I DO IF I AM NOT HAPPY WITH MY RESULTS?

You can request an Enquiry on Result (EoR) if you feel that your test results do not reflect your performance in the test.  This means that your test scripts/tapes will be sent to Cambridge to be re-marked by Senior Examiners.

This request is made after the test results have been released and is designed to ensure candidate performance has been accurately assessed. Please read these terms and conditions carefully:

a. The fee for this service is INR 5200 and it is the same whether you ask for one part of the test to be re-marked, or all parts of the test.

b. An EoR can only be made within six weeks of the test date. Candidates should make sure that the following complete set of application documents arrives at the Examinations Unit of the British Council before the deadline:

EoR Application Form
Complete address details, postal code and telephone numbers
Original Test Report Form (TRF)

c. If your scores change after the EoR then:

A new TRF will be issued to the candidate.
A full refund will be made to the candidate within a month of the new TRF being issued.

d. If the scores do not change after the EOR then the original TRF will be returned to the candidate.

e. There is no appeal after this re-mark. The decision is final. During the period of remarking, the test results are frozen, and cannot be used to apply for a university or to be sent to an immigration office. Any extra TRF application lodged during this period will be regarded as invalid.

f. This procedure takes six to eight weeks to be completed.
