A specialised zone in the Knowledge and Learning Centre

What is the English Zone?

It is a specialised zone in the Knowledge and Learning Centre equipped with a wide range of up-to-date resources from the UK to help English language learners and teachers to improve their language and teaching skills.

Where is it?

The English Zone is in the Knowledge and Learning Centre at the British Council library in New Delhi. Other British libraries are also in the process of developing English Zones.

I want to improve my English skills, what resources can I find in the English Zone?

There are many resources available for language learners at all levels of English:

  • Books - improve your writing, listening, reading and listening skills as well as your grammar and vocabulary. Find out what’s available in the English Zone here.
  • CD ROMs - improve your pronunciation, grammar, reading, listening skills through the various interactive activities and using the self-access study box materials.
  • English Counsellor - find answers to your English language problems by talking to a British Council English teacher. The teacher is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 12 to 2 pm.
  • Graded Readers - read the latest English novels and popular classics but in easy English.
  • Group Discussions - improve your spoken English skills by participating in group discussions – conducted every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between 12 to 2 pm.
  • On-line sites - log on to the various Learn English and British Council sites to improve your language skills.
  • Video Watch - watch English movies and language learning videos
  • Workshops - attend specialized workshops to improve your interview skills, academic writing, communication skills etc.

I am working in an MNC and want to improve my English. What does the English Zone have for me?

The English Zone has a special Business English section with books, cassettes and videos to help you improve your interview, negotiation and presentation skills and teach you international business etiquettes.

I am an IELTS student, how will the English Zone help me?

The English Zone has a special reference section for IELTS students with a wide range of books and on-line resources. In the near future, students will also be able to borrow IELTS materials.

The English Zone has preparatory materials for other Cambridge exams like BEC, KET, FCE and PLAB.

Does the English Zone have anything for English teachers?

Yes. English teachers can find English methodology books e.g. on how to use the Communicative way in class, how to use music, etc. There are also many resources e.g. photocopiable activity books like Grammar Games, Communication Games etc - to make English language learning fun! You can also find ELT journals and other information on courses, networks and workshops for English language teachers.
