IELTS Preparation Courses

Our IELTS Preparation courses provide useful strategies and techniques to help you approach all sections of the test confidently.

How will the course help me?
Our IELTS Preparation courses will help you:

prepare for the IELTS exam
practice the type of questions you will face in the examination
understand the kind of answers the examiner expects from you
teach you the techniques to help improve your score
familiarise yourself with the test format and time restrictions

What level of English do I need to join a British Council preparation course?
You should have a General English level equivalent to at least a high intermediate or upper-intermediate level. Ideally you should be an independent learner at Upper intermediate level (High B1 - B2 Common European Framework).

Why?
The aim of our IELTS Preparation courses is to improve your exam techniques and strategies and help you get the best score that you can, and not simply to improve your general English level. For that reason your level of English should be a certain level before you attempt the exam. Of course, this will depend on the band score you need to achieve.

What will I do in class?
Teaching time is divided in roughly equal proportion between the four skills of speaking, writing, reading and listening, as in the exam. Your teacher will also give you plenty of opportunity to practise both inside and outside class using supplementary materials, the course book and the workbook.

When are the IELTS Preparation Courses held?
Intensive Courses
are of one week duration for 20 hours and run from Monday to Friday.

Regular Courses follow our terms and are of seven weeks duration. Classes are held three times a week for two hours or twice a week for three hours on Saturdays and Sundays.

Plan your studies with our academic calendar.

*As with other organisations and institutions, we are closed on some holidays. If you lose more than one class due to public holidays, the teacher will conduct a make up class and ensure that the syllabus is still covered.

Venue: British Council, Chennai
