hornby scholarships - 2010

The Hornby Trust has called for applications for ONE long term scholarship for a year's course in ELT in the UK. The selection will be on an all India and Sri Lanka basis and short listed candidates will be interviewed before the final selection is made. Interviews will take place on 8 March 2010

Candidates should:  

  • have successfully completed an undergraduate degree course equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in the UK (certification must be provided as part of each candidate’s application)
  • have at least 5 years’ hands-on and direct experience as an English language teacher/teacher trainer (as opposed to experience only in a management role, such as co-ordinating policy or running a school)
  • have been involved in some sort of developmental work as trainers or managers
  • have attained an overall minimum Band score 6.5 on the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), with no less than 6 in any of the categories.  

Only applications for full time UK based ELT Diploma or Masters courses are eligible for Hornby Trust funding

The last date for receiving applications is 22 February 2010. No applications will be accepted after this date.

Each application must be accompanied by:

  • Two supporting references – one must be from the current employer  
  • certified copies of degree certificates / transcripts where relevant
  • a full up to date Curriculum Vitae

Applications which are not supported by the required documentation will not be considered.

Candidates will be placed in one of these colleges: Lancaster, Leeds and Warwick.

However there is no guarantee that all candidates will be placed at their first choice university.

Please note that the candidate must not communicate directly with the UK institution, other than request information on that university's courses.
