FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Questions about our Teaching Centre and enrolling for a course
Can I do more than one course at the same time?
Yes, if there is more than one course available for your standard of English, and the times do not clash.
What can I do after I finish this course?
Your teacher will advise you on which course would be most useful for you to attend next. Students who have successfully completed a course usually move up to the next level, e.g. Elementary 2 to Elementary 3
How long do the courses last?
Our short courses offer you the flexibility to study what you want, when you want. To achieve their desired level of ability in the English language, most students need to attend more than one course. After completing one course you can change to a different type of course if you wish, or take a break for a couple of months while you are busy with other things.
Do I have to take the placement test?
Before starting a course, all students must take the British Council Placement Test. This is an assessment to enable us to identify your level of English. After the test, we'll be able to recommend the best course for you.
What does the placement test consist of?
The placement test takes about an hour to complete and is made up of three parts:

1.
A written test.
2. A five minute interview (with one of our teachers).
3. A counselling session to find the right course for you.

You can join any course that is at your level. You've got six months to register for a course before your placement test result becomes invalid.
How should I prepare for the placement test?
It's best if you don't do any preparation. That way we can properly assess your standard of English. We take great care to enrol you on a course to suit your particular level of English.
When I have completed the placement test, do I automatically have a place on a course?
You have a place on a course only when you pay the course fee in full. We recommend that you enrol as soon as possible after taking your test because places on courses can fill up quickly.
How do I pay for the course?

Payment can be made in cash, by demand draft or credit card. Demand drafts should be made payable to 'British Council Division'. Each course is priced separately. (We do not accept cheques)

Can I pay in installments?
We will only enrol you on a course once you have paid the full fee.
Is there any more to pay after the registration fee?

After paying the registration fee, you can take the written test and interview. However, your place on the course will be confirmed only after you pay the entire course fee. Once you've paid the fee you can start the course. You may also be asked to buy some books. The course fee is for one course. If you decide to register for another course, you will have to pay for it separately.

Do I have to buy a book?

Yes. Although there is no need to buy any materials for the Spoken English Skills course - we provide all the materials.

Will I finish the book in one course?
Each General English course is based on one-third of your course book. For Presentation Skills and Business Communication Skills, you will complete the majority of the course book in one course.
Can I do a course by correspondence?
At the moment we do not offer correspondence courses. As bandwidth increases we hope to introduce on-line courses.
Can I change to a different course if I feel the course I'm attending is not suitable?
It is important for you to think carefully about what type of course you would like to do before you register. Once you have registered, you will only be able to change your course at the recommendation of your teacher.
I am very busy at the moment. Do you have a class at a time that suits me?
We offer a variety of courses with classes in the mornings, afternoons or evenings. Most classes are held between Monday and Friday. To benefit fully from your course, it's important that you have enough time to do homework and other self-study.
Can I use the library?
All students registered with the Teaching Centre receive a 50% discount on the membership fees for the Library. This gives you the chance to use the English Zone to get extra practice and further improve your English.
