Qualifications for teachers

The British Council can help support your professional development as a teacher in a number of ways. Whether you are new to the teaching profession, have been teaching for years or have absolutely no teaching experience, there are many international English Language Teaching qualifications available to meet your needs.

But that’s not all you need in today’s competitive job market. We also offer a range of English language proficiency exams which assess your English language skills and can give you an edge over your rivals

Teaching Knowledge test (TKT)

This flexible and accessible award from Cambridge University focuses on the core teaching knowledge needed by teachers, whatever your background and teaching experience.

CELTA

If you'd like to teach English to adult learners, CELTA is the best known and most widely taken initial 'TESOL/TEFL' qualification of its kind in the world.

Cambridge International Certificate for Teachers and Trainers (CICTT)

Cambridge International Exams (CIE) provides qualifications for teachers and trainers to develop their thinking and practice, to improve the quality of teaching and learning. The Certificate encourages initiative and innovation, and helps teachers and trainers to develop their own practice in their own particular context, reflect upon their experiences and have their work assessed to international standards.

Cambridge International Diploma for Teachers and Trainers (CIDTT)

The Diploma will help you to improve the quality and outcomes of teaching and learning, enhance and update professional skills and understanding, introduce curriculum developments successfully and achieve an international benchmark of excellence.

English Tests

The British Council offers a wide range of UK qualifications in India including a variety of English language tests and exams awarded by the prestigious University of Cambridge ESOL. By taking one of these English language exams, you will not only gain an internationally recognised qualification, but also develop your overall proficiency in English.
