(2 years programme at the British Council’s Managed Learning Zone - MLZ, New Delhi)
The supported e-Learning Masters in Business Administration (MBA) offers the opportunity to study a rigorously designed and intellectually demanding programme that develops personal and business management effectiveness and is particularly aimed at the needs of people wanting a high profile and internationally recognised qualification, working at middle or senior management level.
The degree focuses on developing areas of knowledge fundamental to an understanding of the wider areas of strategic management, which will help participants to influence and shape the focus and development of their business.
It encourages the development of a depth of understanding to support business projects, which is key to growth and business survival. The qualification will help to progress career opportunities, particularly for those who are keen to develop their own skills and knowledge as well as further their business growth.
The focus of the MBA is on leadership within modern organisations, and the modules emphasise the importance of entrepreneurship for business success and expansion.
What does e-Learning mean for the MBA?
We are able to provide the latest support including:
- 3-day induction workshop conducted by University of Bedfordshire staff at the MLZ in Delhi.
- The programme uses a real-time voice-to-voice interactive seminar package that gives students tutorial support directly from the University staff throughout each semester. This does not require a special software package.
- Bedfordshire will also engage local facilitators to meet students for peer group discussions and help clarify doubts. These weekend sessions will be held at the British Council.
- University of Bedfordshire lecturers provide a ‘Flying Faculty’ service, which delivers short overviews of each module, at British Council Delhi.
- All the learning materials needed for each module are available on CD ROM, which gives easy-to-follow sections related to the topics and areas of study to be covered.
- In addition students will use the University’s virtual learning environment, Blackboard, which enables the student to communicate with both the tutor and fellow students.
- Students will also be able to access Bedfordshire’s digital learning resource centre.
- There are opportunities for self-assessment throughout these sections.
The course is unique because it provides full interactive support, unlike the majority of distance learning offerings. We recognise that distance learning may be isolating and an MBA in particular, can be a challenging experience.
As well as providing learning materials for each module, support is available via a number of complementary media. Our virtual learning environment includes discussion boards and chat rooms, as well as web links.
The latest addition to our online technology is voice-to-voice seminar rooms. Through this participants will have online tutorials with University of Bedfordshire staff in real time, discussing and learning over the internet using voice technology.
In addition to the direct contact this provides with a tutor, it also enables students to form contacts with others in the tutorial, which in turn can lead to self-help groups operating via the chat rooms or even more directly.
These seminars also enable participants to feel present in the tutorial, as if in person. They can therefore receive individual attention from their own location.
The online voice technology provides a web interface such that documents under discussion can be viewed during the tutorial, and there is a white board for visual interaction, text chat and polling.
In addition there is a ‘Flying Faculty’ facility whereby University of Bedfordshire academic teaching tutors are available towards the start of each semester to give a short overview relevant to their module. The course is unique...
The Module Structure of the Programme
The course consists of eight modules spread over a two-year period. Two modules are taken each semester and there are short intensive overviews of the modules presented by the relevant University of Bedfordshire lecturer at your local study centre. Support is ongoing from local lecturers who mark assignment and examination work; this is moderated by University of Bedfordshire staff.
All module assessment will be marked according to the University’s grading system which operates a scale ranging from A (excellent) to G (nothing of merit).
There are two extended written projects undertaken during the eighteen-month MBA study period, one in each year of study. One of these projects is a reflective study relevant to the delegate experience but emphasising personal development and the second project focuses on ‘leadership’.
