Certificate of English Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA)
TEACHER TRAINING COURSE

What is it?

The Certificate of English Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) is an internationally recognised qualification which enables successful candidates to work in institutions world-wide. It is awarded by the University of Cambridge and is a widely respected qualification.

Who is it for?

CELTA is a course for teachers with no or little experience in teaching - however, even more experienced ones can benefit from it, since it's the perfect combination of theory (through input sessions) and practice (through teaching practice sessions and assignments). The British Council also requires all its teachers and examiners to have the CELTA (or equivalent) plus two years post CELTA experience.

Am I eligible?

CELTA trainees must be at least 20 years old and have a first degree.  Excellent command of English is mandatory, given that the course is conducted in English and the CELTA trainee must prove that he/she is able to communicate in English both in oral and written form. Such demand is justified by the fact that someone who has passed the course is a professional who is able to teach any level and has met the standards that allow him/her to teach anywhere in the world - that's why CELTA is recognised internationally
