FUTURE PERFECT - OUR WORK WITH MUSEUMS

Workshop on Communication and Interpretation in Museums
8 and 9 September 2011, National Museum Institute, Delhi

The National Museum Institute and the British Council is conducting a training workshop on Communication and Interpretation in Museums. The workshop led by Dr Martin Bellamy of Glasgow Museums Resource Centre will provide an opportunity for the Indian museums to exchange ideas and experience and to develop an understanding of how skills and knowledge about learning in museums could be shared.

Museum Master Classes
16 and 17 October 2011, Bengal Club, Kolkata

The Victoria & Albert Museum, with the support of the Bonita Trust and the Ministry of Culture, India, in association with the British Council, is planning a series of Museum Master Classes  Each of the three sessions will last a half day, with two sessions to take place on Sunday 16 October and one on the morning of Monday 17 October.

The sessions will be:

  • Redeveloping Museums led by Moira Gemmill, Director of Projects and Design, V&A
    Will provide an overview and insight into the key stages of developing a new museum or gallery.
  • Collections Management led by Heather Caven, Head of Collections Management, V&A
    Heather will use V&A case studies to cover cataloguing and digitisation; collections management systems and procedures and staff training.
  • Learning in Museums led by Caroline Lang, Head of Communities and Audience Development, V&A
    This session will focus on developing educational activities and events for different audiences.  

Please nominate a senior official from your organisation to participate in the programme by 20 August 2011 and email the nomination to samarjit.guha@in.britishcouncil.org. The candidate should have sufficient experience and authority to benefit from all three of the classes and to share his or her learning and implement changes upon return to work.

Hay Festival - Brit Lit

British Council brings to you the opportunity to attend a 11 day course on British Literature in Norwich, UK from 15th-26th August.2011. The course aims to train experienced teachers in techniques for exploiting and developing materials for the classroom derived from contemporary British literature, in the form of poetry and short stories.
