Announcing the YSE award 2008

UK is a major international centre for the production and post-production of films, including for digital special effects. Cinema attendance has tripled over the last twenty years and is expected to reach £1 billion in 2008. The industry is also exploiting new sources of revenue. Rental and “sell-though” (purchase for home viewing) of films now generate more revenue than cinema exhibition. The total value of the UK home video market was £13.3 billion in 2004. The growth of multi-channel television has also created additional revenue streams.

YSE is an exciting opportunity to engage with young entrepreneurs, nurture them to become the next generation of leaders in the Indian film industry, support them in their promotion of the best in national creativity, and linking them with the UK at this key stage in their development.

In 2008 the following 10 countries are participating in the IYSE awards: China, India, Indonesia, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Slovenia, and Thailand

Who can apply:

The Award process

India Finalist

  • A selection committee creates a shortlist of contenders from the applications received.
  • An established UK screen entrepreneur conducts an interactive session with the shortlisted contenders.
  • A panel of high profile judges selects a finalist to travel to the UK to represent India and compete for the international award through an interview process.
  • The India finalist gets an opportunity to travel to London, Cardiff and Bristol in October to meet leaders and innovators in the UK film and TV business.
  • The programme will be tailored to the finalists’ interests, and include both a group itinerary for the finalists to get a shared overview of the best of the UK film scene and specific meetings to introduce finalists to UK contacts of particular interest to them for commercial or collaborative purposes. The tour will comprise visits, meetings, seminars, screenings and events. We anticipate it will also include a masterclass with an internationally renowned UK screen entrepreneur during which the finalists will be able to question them about the development of their career in the field.

Each international finalist will be given the opportunity to promote a short example of film from their country to an invited audience, who will then vote for their favourite clip.
