She previously worked as visual merchandiser for Debenhams and fashion stylist at Parang Kencana boutique and Kabare Magazine Jogja before opening her own company. Popperca‘s mission is to preserve Indonesian culture through its ready-to-wear and accessories. Its distinctive style is patchwork although the products are not made of patchworks. |

Those two local communities produce, retail and market independent street-wear clothing labels for young people in Surabaya. Since 2006, he designs, produces, and markets his own clothing line, “Mowl and Melle”. Aluia organises various youth events, including the Refresh Your Sunday, which, from an audience of 10 has now grown into a community of thousands Aulia was national finalist in the IYCE Fashion Award 2008. |

This is a small-scale co-operative in South Sulawesi. The community trains its youths to preserves, creates innovation, and market the regions’ traditional weavings. Bata is also a member of AMAN (Indigenous People’s Alliance of the Archipelago), which aims for the recognition of the economic, political, and cultural rights of indigenous people. |

Cakrawala publishes the youth culture and street fashion magazine Suave. The magazine helped bring street wear into the mainstream. He’s also founder and Brand Manager of Invictus since 2003, one of the top independent street wear companies in Bandung. Dicky studied fashion brand management at London College of Fashion in 2008. He was also finalist in the IYCE Communication Award 2009. |

He’s been in the fashion business since 1998. The company’s vision is to create a new environment in shopping by mixing street wear fashion with art, books, records, and urban space. Its store in Surabaya is one of the biggest in Surabaya with nearly 3,000 Rotten Apple Community members. |

Set-up in 1998 with just US$ 31 (Rp. 500,000) and little knowledge about the business, the company is a pioneer in local skateboard fashion scene and has inspired other local brands. Febby is Event Manager for Volcom and Division Head of Marketing Campaign and Partnership for Kreative Independent Clothing Kommunity (KICK), the 100-strong association of independent street wear companies in Bandung.

Her boutique designed company uniforms, stage costumes, and cocktail dresses. She incorporates “scraps” and recycled materials in her original designs that have now become her trademark. She was in-house designer at La Vinz and personal designer assistant at Jazz Pasay Inc. Nola also teaches housemaids pattern-making and young women to remake their old jeans. |

Oscar won second prize at the ASEAN Young Designer Contest in Singapore, in 1999, which launched his career. In 2006-2007, the Department of Trade commissioned him to develop hand-woven silk products in South Sulawesi. Since then, he works with a community of 100 traditional weavers and jewellery makers in South Sulawesi, Bali, Nusa Tenggara Timur, and Java. He employs 20 full-time staff with a monthly turnover of US$10,000.

This is an independent street wear company in Bandung. He started his business with just US$ 22 in 2000. Today he produces official t-shirts for top Indonesian and Malaysian bands. He established the Adikaka youth foundation which runs supervised playground for poor children in urban areas and the “Never Grow Up” campaign to encourage people to play with children.

Alit is an owner and Marketing Director of Bloop and Endorse, distribution outlets for independent street wear labels. She graduated with academic distinction in Fashion Design and Marketing from Cavendish College, UK, in 2007 and has worked as retail advisor and tour guide in London. Bloop and Endorse attract over 1,000 customers daily and close to 2,500 on week-ends. Both stores endorse top local bands Naif, Nidji, and Peter Pan. |
