WRITING FOR THE WEB
Hello

Welcome to the writing site. Whether you're new to writing or an experienced writer looking for tips on style, this site offers information on a range of subjects that will help you develop your writing skills.

It includes information on the principles behind written communication, methods to help you write effective copy, practical advice for writing in the workplace and ready-to-use copy from British Council sites. This site also includes workshop materials for trainers and do-it-yourself exercises.

Writing a web page
There are no rules for writing a good web page. However, this eight step method can help to ensure our page is clear, concise and easy to navigate. What's more, it can also help us to write quickly and easily.
Standards and house style
We need to make sure we're upholding a consistent image of our organisation in our writing by following our house style and grammar standards. Find out more about British Council standards and house style.
Standard content website
This website contains standard offers and customer journeys, which give you approved off-the-shelf copy to use on your own site (saving time and letting you concentrate on your country's specific offers).
Writing support
Whatever our writing experience, we can always develop our skills using others' advice. This section includes training materials, writers' exercises and a list of recommended books.
Editing skills
As writers, we need to make decisions about the information we supply, and the way in which we supply it. This section offers advice on writing plans, quality control, decision-making and English usage.

Writing styles
Here you'll find advice on achieving the two main styles used by British Council sites: a straightforward style that provides clear information and a persuasive style used for promotion.
