Global objects

Global objects are objects that can be shared and used by everybody. These include title text objects such as Arts, Events, Science, Education; commonly used URLs (external links) like EducationUK, and picture objects.

The idea of using these global objects is to save you time while you are building your site. It is much quicker to search for one of these objects than creating a new one of your own.

It is always advisable before creating any link or text object to search for one that you could re-cycle before creating a new one.

For title text objects the text should be included in the name eg: global-common-events-text so for instance if you were searching for an "Events" title you should search for "events" in the name field and this would then find any appropriate text objects.

Similarly for external links you should always search for these by putting the site address in the target URL field as this will then find any external links already in the database that match the address of the site you are looking for.

Global objects can not be edited or changed except by the E-strategy team. When creating new objects (pages, texts, links, etc.) you need to make sure you select your country group otherwise Global-Common will be selected by Obtree as default and you will not be able to change or edit the object you have created.

Global images in Obtree

You can now only use global images that are in the Approved-images group in Obtree, or images from the Asset bank. You can only use images that are in your country or departmental groups that have provided certification to Javed Iqbal. If you have not done this your images will appear as blank spaces until they are replaced with images from the sources mentioned above.
