Arts and Humanities

Funded research can be in classics; ancient history; archaeology; visual arts and media; English language; literature; medieval and modern history; modern languages and linguistics; librarianship; information and museum studies; music; performing arts; philosophy; law and religious studies.

Biological and Biotechnology Sciences
Includes sources for biological and biotechnological sciences which are not specifically medically related, for example: animal sciences; biochemistry and cell biology; biomolecular sciences; engineering and biological systems; genes and developmental biology; and plant and microbial sciences.
Medical Sciences
Areas of funded research can include; health services and public health research, infections and immunity, molecular and cellular medicine, neuroscience and mental health and physiological systems and clinical sciences
Engineering and Physical Sciences
Funded research can be in the areas of chemistry, engineering, information and communications technology, materials science, mathematical sciences and physics
Economic and Social Sciences
This covers the economic and social sciences, in areas such as economic affairs, education and human development, environment and planning, government and law, industry and employment and social affairs.
Natural Environment

Research areas cover a broad spectrum but can include; earth sciences, science-based archaeology, environmental sciences and atmospheric science.
