One main area of the Peacekeeping English Project's work is developing specialist language learning materials relevant to uniformed services' personnel. We run workshops and projects where teachers develop their skills in syllabus and course design and materials development. These materials may be used in the classroom or for individual study in a Self-Access Centre.
We also work with other producers of courses and materials in these sectors to bring in and help transfer expertise developed in the project. Some areas of recent development include:
* A Military English skills book (Breakthrough)
* Listening materials for Self-Access Centres
* Use of visual authentic training materials
* Human rights materials
Our LearnEnglish Peacekeepers website also provides online materials and worksheets which teachers can download and adapt to their context. These materials cover a wide range of military contexts as well as areas of language that are specifically relevant to the work of police and border guards.
