Talk by Patrick Woodroffe on The Bright World of Lighting Design

What have Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Swan Lake, and London’s Millennium Dome got in common? Meet Patrick Woodroffe, an internationally recognized Lighting Designer who, over the last 30 years, has been the lighting designer for a rich variety of projects in the worlds of music, dance, fashion, art and architecture.

In contemporary music alone, he has been the lighting designer for shows of legendary artists such as The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, The Police, Simon and Garfunkel and The Bee Gees. He will also provide lighting for the highly-anticipated “Lady Gaga Live in Hong Kong” concert in May.

Don’t miss the chance to hear him speak at the British Council, where he will be sharing his experience of working abroad, relationships with A-list artists and London Olympics 2012.

Ecochic Design Award Hong Kong 2012 – Semi-finalists’ Exhibition
Art Space L107, K11 Art Mall, Tsim Sha Tsui

The British Council is proudly supporting the Ecochic Design Award 2012. the first sustainable fashion design competition in Hong Kong. Twelve semi-finalists have been selected and their up-cycled designs are on display in the Art Space at K11 alongside renowned UK sustainable fashion designers Ada Zanditon, Orsola de Castro and Junky Styling. The grand final will be held on 5 July, during which the six finalists will showcase their EcoChic collections on the runway in front of Hong Kong media and representatives from the fashion arena.

From now until early July, the general public can vote for their favourite design through online voting for The EcoChic People’s Award presented by the British Council. The winner of the award will go on a trip to London Fashion Week’s Estethica, learn from top British sustainable fashion designers and have the opportunity explore British fashion culture.

Tips for F5 to F7 students: Success in IELTS

This free seminar combines important information about IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and practical ways to prepare for the test. Our experts will explain the structure and procedures for taking the test and how your result can help you to apply for universities at home and abroad (including Hong Kong, the UK, the USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand). Participants will also have a chance to win IELTS preparation material Top Tips for IELTS from University of Cambridge ESOL examinations. The seminar is sure to be popular so book early to avoid disappointment.

We are proudly presenting a series of cutting edge UK performances for the first time in the 23rd Macau International Arts Festival in May, including three top notch productions featured at the Edinburgh Showcase 2011: I Infinite by Tom Dale Company, The Monster in The Hall by Citizens Theatre and When We Meet Again (Introduced As Friends) by Me and The Machine.

An interactive outdoor installation show Congregation by KMA will be showcased every night from 25 to 31 May 2012, and there is Goobledegook’s The Planet of the Beetlebuns which was designed and created especially for the toddlers.

Alongside with the performances the British Council is also supporting a series of training workshops led by artists and directors.
