How Local Authorities can get involved
Benefits for Local Authorities

'I could not have anticipated the huge benefits! Our application has brought together two areas of the council, an outside agency (that we have now forged strong links with) as well as primary and secondary schools from opposite sides of the city. Work on the project has already begun. We have visited our partners in Warsaw and are developing programmes to help new and recently arrived families to integrate quickly into both the schooling system and the local community. The opportunity to work with Poland has energised all of us.'

Cardiff Local Education Authority, Comenius Regio Partnership with Poland

Sustainable collaboration
Regio enables you to exchange cultural and educational experiences with another European partner region. As well as involving local schools and colleges, Regio provides anl opportunity to collaborate with organisations in your region that you have not worked with before. These can include local businesses, police or fire services, libraries, museums, art galleries, community organisations and professionals from relevant fields. Partners develop fresh thinking through a broad spectrum of activities such as conferences, website development, study visits and exchanges.

Schools and Comenius
Promoting Comenius activities to schools and colleges in your area brings benefits to the educational institutions themselves and to your relationships with them: one in two school partnerships have led to better relationships between schools and local education authorities. School leaders report that Comenius leads to increased skills, motivation and intercultural awareness among both pupils and staff. Comenius provides opportunities for children, enhances the European dimension in the local community and strengthens links between schools and the wider community. Where schools in your region are isolated or culturally homogenous, Comenius brings in diversity from the wider world. Conversely, where institutions are very socially or ethnically mixed, the programme helps to break down barriers, improving social cohesion and widening participation.
