Placement testing: Having taken the placement test, a British Council teacher will recommend your appropriate level.

Changing classes: If you would like to change your class, discuss this with your teacher. It may be possible for you to move to a different class if there are places available. No changes will be allowed after the first week of the course. If the teacher feels you have been placed in the wrong class, they will recommend a move within the first week of your course if there are places available.

Attendance policy: To get the most out of the course, you should arrive on time for class and attend every lesson. You must attend 80% of full-time courses to pass the course and qualify for your certificate of attendance. If you are late by 30 minutes or more, this will be counted as an absence. The British Council will consider the following situations as reasons for non-attendance;

Sickness supported by a medical certificate.
Family emergency, such as illness.

If you feel that you have been treated unfairly, you can make a written appeal to the Teaching Manager at teaching@britishcouncil.hu within two days of being notified. The Teaching Manager will reply within two working days.

Course Fee and Payment: The fees for adult courses are based on the number of hours. We can only accept payments by bank transfer or by bank card. Payment must be received before the course starts. The course fee includes the British Council placement test. The fee for course books and Cambridge or IELTS examinations is not included in the price of a course. The Libra Bookshop provides all British Council students with a 20% discount. Books will be available to buy at placement testing times and during week one of the course. Requests for an invoice can only be made before the payment transaction. Please note that the British Council is exempt from VAT.

Corporate course payment: In the case of corporate business courses, we can accept invoice payment. To issue an invoice for your company we will need a completed order form approved by your company representative.

Paying in instalments: For courses of 7 weeks or more, the course fee can be paid in two instalments, The first instalment of 60% has to be paid before the course starts. The second instalment of 40% must be paid by lesson 7. Fees for intensive courses shorter than 7 weeks must be paid in full before the course begins.

Cancellation of the course and refund policy: The British Council reserves the right to cancel the course which does not have the minimum number of students (6) enrolled.

All refund requests must be made in writing to the Teaching Manager. Refunds can only be paid by bank transfer; please attach your bank account details to your written request. Course fee refunds will be calculated as follows:

Full credit or refund: If the British Council cancels the course due to an insufficient number of students.

Full credit or refund less any bank charges: If a request is made more than 1 week before the Course Commencement Date.

Full credit: If a request is made within 1 week of the course starting. Credits are usable for up to 1 year.

No refunds or credits will be provided once a course has started.

Conversational classes (5 o’clock tea): Student’s Pass fees are non-refundable.

Refunds are normally made by direct bank transfer and take up to 7 working days (Monday to Friday) to process.

Re-registration: You will receive a re-registration notification from the Customer Service /your teacher in week 5 of your course. Re-registration will secure your place on the next course. If you take a one-year break, you will have to take the placement test again.

Children’s safety: The British Council is not responsible for young learners before 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time or after the end of their class. If you expect to be delayed collecting a child, please call our Customer Services Officer on 0630 662 3703 so that we can pass a message to your child.

Adult courses are only for those over the age of 16. 16 &/ or 17 year olds must get parental permission to join an adult course. Adults (18+) cannot attend Young Learner courses.

Alterations to the course programme: There are no classes held on public holidays. Make-up lessons are included in the term programme, so you will not lose any classes due to British Council or public holidays. However, we cannot make-up any classes if you are absent. The maximum number of students per class in classes for both adults classes and young learner classes is 12. In exceptional circumstances the number of students may vary slightly. The British Council reserves the right of admission. We cannot guarantee the same class teacher from term to term.

Suggestions, feedback and enquiries: We hope to make your experience of dealing with the British Council an excellent one and we welcome your comments, suggestions and details of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the service you have experienced when contacting us or using any of our products or services. We would also like to hear if a particular member of staff has provided you with exceptional service. We will draw on information received from your comments and complaints to improve our services and products.

What we will do: We deal with all comments and complaints seriously. We promise that we will treat your comment or complaint fairly and impartially. We will not treat you differently because you have made a complaint.  We will not discriminate against you on the basis of your age, disability, ethnicity, gender, religion or belief. We aim to acknowledge your comment or complaint within two working days and deal with it within seven working days of receipt.
