LEARNENGLISH FAMILY WORKSHOP
Tímea Horváth, kindergarten teacher

The LearnEnglish Family workshop was very useful: at our English language playhouse, Pekka we try to incorporate all the things we heard and seen. The children just love the songs and the books. The kids just love the songs, the books and the rhymes. Now the book entitled 'There was an old lady' has a dedicated place on our bookshelf' as the children insist on their daily dose of this story. We invented several games and activities around this book. The British Council plays an important part in my professional life. Therefore I was happy to take part in the February workshop and could listen to Kim Ashmore's presentation on the resources and guidelines the British Council offers through its LearnEnglish Kids és LearnEnglish Parents websites.

NAVIGATORS AT SZIGET FESTIVAL
Balázs Gyémánt, tour guide, editor-reporter

A few enthusiastic Navigators - participants of the "Intercultral Navigators" programme thought that Sziget Festival is one of the best places to interculturally navigate between Hungarians and foreigners, Hungarians and Hungarians and between foreigners and foreigners and their mixes. We were brainstorming, made up some games and finally put a created a program for the music festival to bring different people together and to show that culture is more than what we usually think it is. We believe that what we call "culture" is beyond where people come from, what their skincolour is and what they believe in. There are a thousand small elements that make us unique and different. We think that diversity is not only something good but it's also an advantage. Let it be among friends, in the human resources policy of a company, in art or in the media.

CREATIVE CITIES
Zsuzsa Kravalik, sociologist

A sociologist is a rare animal in urban development. At the beginning of the show 'Our little city' based on British Council’s Creative Cities initiative I felt dizzy and shocked by terms such as curtain wall and pull function. "What are these guys can say about such living creatures as cities? Is it possible that I ended up in the wrong team?" But it turned out that we could understand each other much better than we have dreamt about it at first. Although during the site visits we came up with as diverse ideas as transitivity, potential land value and changed weekend habits, out of this mixture of impressions through long hours of brainstorming a common solution has been born, which pleased both the team’s architect Peter, the real-estate developer Miklós and me, the urban sociologist. Hypothesis: "If it were possible to use this synergy in university education, the urban state of affairs could be greatly developed". Let’s prove the hypothesis!

OLD CLIMATE ADVOCATE
Andrea Joós, student

" 30 intensive hours, 12 enthusiastic climate advocates and the British Council... what else do I need? We had a great team-building week-end in Szendtendre with a fantastic team. To be climate advocate for a year or so is a fantastic mission and I find this program extremely effecient. During the last 9 months we created a low carbon zero office in Gödöllő, produced a Pesti Est supplement and started our own blog. We now prepare for a new year with new challenges and new advocetes who just joined the team. So watch out for the news from us...." >> Read out more about the project

OUR LITTLE TOWN TV SERIES
Balázs Lévai, producer, MTV
April 2009

"This is a strange new programme with a specific structure, a game for city planning. It is based on the Future City Game developed by the British Council. Our team created the "film version" of the game where 2 teams - a professional and a lay one of city inhabitants - have to find a creative solution for a problem. This might be a street, square or even an island - something that cause problem for the civil government. The teams have 48 hours to come up with a brilliant idea which then will be judged by a local jury. You can see the film on the Hungarian Television on Sundays. " >> Download the films here

LONDON IN GREEN TV FILM
Ádám Zakar, editor Duna TV

"Did you know that new houses in the UK should have 'zero carbon emission' from 2016? Are you interested in the London 'Green Olympics'? Several green programmes have been launched in the last few years which are now making London a great place to live. The film titled 'London in Green' was produced in coproduction with the British Council and it shows London from a very new perspective. You will know how the London University of Economics can recycle 69 kg rubbish per student. You can see the first green disco of the world where people not just consume but also produce energy - by dancing on the floor. Join me in this extremely interesting journey.
