General English

The Cambridge ESOL examinations are taken by hundreds of thousands of candidates every year worldwide. The Main Suite examinations - PET, FCE, CAE and CPE - are accredited examinations in Hungary.

Successful candidates are awarded an internationally recognised certificate which is valid for life, and also an accredited local certificate stating the equivalent Hungarian level they have attained.

The Main Suite

The Cambridge Main Suite examinations are available at four levels at the British Council Hungary's subcentres. Each level assesses the four main language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Exams are offered three times a year in March, June and December. CPE is only offered in June and December.

We offer the following general English examinations

The Preliminary English Test (PET) is a lower intermediate level examination which tests the language skills needed to survive in social and work situations in an English-speaking environment.
The First Certificate in English (FCE) is an examination at an intermediate level, requiring competence in all the language skills. It is widely recognised by business and educational organisations throughout the world.
The Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), which indicates an advanced level of competence in English, is suitable for those who require English for professional or study purposes. It is recognised by the majority of British universities for English language entrance requirements. It is also designed to encourage the development of the skills required to progress towards the CPE.
The Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) is the highest level of the main Cambridge ESOL examinations suite. It is an advanced examination focusing on the English language skills required for entry into British universities and to meet business or academic standards overseas.
