What we do

We are the United Kingdom's international organisation for educational and cultural relations. We connect people with learning opportunities and creative ideas from the UK to build lasting relationships around the world.

Our purpose is to build mutually beneficial relationships between people in the UK and other countries and to increase appreciation of the UK’s creative ideas and achievements.

What we do in Hungary

We work with Hungarian and British partners to present British learning and creativity. We promote UK education, English language and cultural exchange. We work both for individuals and for the mutual benefit of the UK and Hungary. Our approach is non-political; we present an honest picture of the UK.

Working with us

We work with ministries, professional associations, universities, schools and NGOs. Together with our partners stimulate cultural dialogue and understanding. Many of our projects involve Hungarians collaborating with UK contemporaries, with results that are exciting both for Hungary and for international understanding.

Where we are worldwide

The British Council is registered as a charity in the UK. (We are like a Hungarian NGO). We receive a grant from the British government and earn income from teaching. The British Council has 7,500 staff in offices, teaching centres, libraries and information and resource centres in 233 towns and cities in 109 countries and territories worldwide. Find out more about the British Council on our corporate website.
