EUNIC is the European Union National Institues for Culture. The purpose of EUNIC is to create effective partnerships and networks between the participating organisations, to improve and promote cultural diversity and understanding between European societies, and to strengthen international dialogue and co-operation with countries outside Europe.
EUNIC Hungary is a network of European cultural organisations based in Hungary. EUNIC Hungary is a member of EUNIC, the organisation of the European Union National Institutes for Culture.
EUNIC Hungary was founded in October 2007 by the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Goethe-Institut Hungary, British Council, Italian Cultural Institute Budapest, the Slovak Cultural Institute, the Bulgarian Cultural Institute, the Polish Cultural Institute, the Romanian Cultural Institute, the Danish Cultural Institute, Finnagora, the Estonian Cultural Institute, the Instituto Camoes and the Institut Francais de Budapest. The Austrian Institute became an associated member in 2008.
With the aim of promoting civil society and a greater understanding among European citizens, the EUNIC network develops cultural projects and other forms of cultural collaboration. This multi-country approach enhances and extends existing bilateral networking to European level. The thirteen members of EUNIC Hungary share expertise and best practice in relation to cultural projects, cultural policies of Hungary, administrative and organizational issues and topics of common interest.
Each member also acts as a point of contact for the Hungarian public and private institutions. In addition, support is given to cultural projects of those EU member states who do not have permanent representation in Hungary. EUNIC Hungary aims to create a space for reflection on culture, its current position and its potential for development against the backdrop of globalization. EUNIC promotes a dynamic, tolerant and open culture in Hungary, Europe and the world.
