What is TSA (Oxford), ELAT, STEP, HAT or PAT?

Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) is a 2 hours pen and paper test.  

The TSA (University of Oxford) is a pre-interview admissions test for applicants to undergraduate courses in PPE, E&M, EP and PPP at the University of Oxford.  

English Literature Admissions Test (ELAT) is a 90-minute pen and paper test.  

The ELAT is a pre-interview admissions test for applicants to undergraduate courses in English at the University of Oxford. The test is designed to enable applicants to show their ability in the key skill of close reading, paying attention to such elements as the language, imagery, allusion, syntax, form and structure of the passages set for comment.

Sixth Term Examination Paper (STEP) consists of three 3 hour examinations, STEP I, STEP II, and STEP III.

Candidates who have received offers for Mathematics courses at the University of Cambridge will normally be required to sit STEP as a post-interview test.  The University of Warwick also includes STEP in its undergraduate Mathematics offers; the University of Bristol, the University of Oxford, Imperial College London and the University of Bath all encourage applicants to take the papers. Candidates should consult with their university regarding which papers to take.

History Aptitude Test (HAT) is a 2 hour pen and paper test.

The History Aptitude Test (HAT) is a two-hour subject-specific admissions test, which is taken by applicants to the University of Oxford's undergraduate degree courses in History and its joint schools.

Physics Aptitude Test (PAT) is a 2 hour pen and paper test.

The PAT is a two-hour subject-specific admissions test, which is taken by applicants to all University of Oxford Physics and Engineering undergraduate degree courses.

How can I register?

Please return your completed Registration Form with a copy of your HKID/ Passport:

1) In-person – Customer Services, 3/F, British Council, 3 Supreme Court Road, Admiralty, Hong Kong. You can pay by credit card, EPS or cheque made payable to “British Council”.

Opening Hours

2) By Post – Please send the above documents together with a cheque made payable to “British Council” or pay by credit card (please see Information for Candidates) to: British Council, Examinations Services, 3 Supreme Court Road, Admiralty, Hong Kong
