Recognition of IELTS

In July 2002 the University Grants Committee in Hong Kong announced the adoption of IELTS as the Common English Proficiency Assessment Scheme (CEPAS) for graduating university students.

In 2003, Civil Service Bureau accepted an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of IELTS are accepted as equivalent to a pass in the UE paper of the Common Recruitment Examination, if and when the results holder applies for civil service posts within two years from the date of the IELTS test.

Modules

Choose the Academic Module if you are planning to undertake high education study, or choose the General Training Module if you are considering non-academic training, work experience or for immigration purposes.

 

Test Format

Candidates are tested in listening, reading, writing and speaking. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking Modules. There is a choice of Reading and Writing Modules – Academic or General Training. It is the responsibility of the candidate to tell the Administrator which version they need to take.

Test Results

Download results 13 days after they take the test at or after 12 noon:

Step 1: Go to http://ielts-results.britishcouncil.org
Step 2: Enter your six-digit candidate number, passport/ID number (the same number entered on the application form) and date of birth
Step 3: Select test date from the calendar
Step 4: Click the SEARCH REUSLT button

Each test result will be available for viewing online for 2 weeks, after which the information will be deleted automatically.

Results are still given on a test report form. This is available two weeks after the test. Please note that candidates will be sent one copy only of the test report form.

Within one month of the test report issue date, you may request up to five additional copies to be sent to academic institutions/government agencies/professional bodies/employers. An administrative fee will be charged for any further copies.

You may apply for further copies of the Test Report Form for a period of 2 years from the examination date. Additional copies can be sent only to receiving institutions, not given to candidates.
