IELTS
International English Language Testing System

The IELTS test is an internationally recognised language test of the highest standard. Universities, companies, professional bodies and even governments primarily demand this qualification. IELTS was developed jointly by the British Council, IDP Education Australia and Cambridge ESOL. Visit the IELTS website for more information.

New!  IELTS Online Results Service

We are pleased to announce the global launch of British Council IELTS online results service.  All candidates taking IELTS in the British Council centres can now get their results from the IELTS result website (http://ielts-results.britishcouncil.org) 13 days after they take the test at or after 12 noon and before they receive the official test report form by postal mail.

Half Band Scores

From 1 July 2007, IELTS is making a small but important change. This will allow receiving organisations to specify their requirements more precisely and give test takers a clearer picture of their performance in each skill.

Scores for each part of the test will still be reported on the scale from 1 to 9, but now the Writing and Speaking modules will be reported in whole or half-band in the same way as the Reading and Listening modules.

The IELTS Test Report Form is valid for two years, test takers can continue to tender reports with the older form of Writing and Speaking reported.
