About This Course

This course is designed for young children who are attending Kindergarten 3 in Hong Kong kindergarten.

Our course has been specifically designed to meet the development needs of children at this age. Throughout the course we encourage children to develop their communication, language and literacy skills, personal, social and emotional development, creativity, mathematics, knowledge and understanding of the world and physical development through interactive, fun activities that are presented in a meaningful context.

Our K3 course provides a natural springboard into our Primary 1 courses.

Course Objectives

We integrate all skills naturally into our courses.

Through the workbook we use a story based approach to develop language and grammar. These are developed indirectly through speaking and listening exercise, practical activities and writing tasks.

Phonics and pronunciation practice are integrated informally where appropriate throughout the course.

The course also provides each child the opportunity to develop their personal, social and emotional needs as well as their language and literacy skills.

Our course aims to develop your child's:

  • confidence when speaking English, in small groups and one to one with the teacher and teaching assistant
  • ability to listen and respond to stories and songs
  • listening skills in terms of following instructions and listening attentively to each other throughout the lesson
  • ability to produce different types of writing, working from correct letter formation to short sentences
  • vocabulary and language awareness, encouraging them to use new words and structures, particularly in their speaking
  • initial reading skills such as recognising high frequency words connected to grammar and vocabulary covered

Course Content

The coursebook we use is Story Magic 1. To develop themes of interest, our teachers use a range of supplementary resources:

  • Interactive Whiteboard resources
  • Songs and chants
  • Arts and crafts
  • Book boxes and language specific games
  • Big books

Demonstrating Progress

Your child's progress is measured by continuous assessment and this takes place naturally and informally within class throughout the semester.

At the end of each semester your child will receive a report if they have attended 75% of the classes. The report assessments cover three areas of development;

  • Spoken Language
  • Listening skills
  • Interaction with adults and peers

Working in Partnership

We understand that you want to be involved in and support your child’s learning. To this end we have created an outline of the Download PDF Document roles and responsibilities of all those involved in the learning process.
