About This Course
These courses are designed for young children who are attending Kindergarten 1 or Kindergarten 2 in a Hong Kong kindergarten.
Our course has been specifically designed to meet the development needs of children at this age. Our integrated system of learning through play based activities means that children have the opportunity to learn English in a natural context in a fun, stimulating environment.
Classes are taught in our purpose-built Early Childhood English Centre, which is designed and resourced in line with current best practice in Early Years Education.
 Early Childhood English Centre
We encourage children to develop their communication, language and literacy skills, personal, social and emotional development, creativity, mathematics, knowledge and understanding of the world and physical development through interactive, fun activities that are presented in a meaningful context.
Course Objectives
Our courses are based around 4 topic areas using a range of books and interactive whiteboard technology to support the learning. Each topic follows an English Language lesson plan and uses our integrated play based learning approach to incorporate holistic learning opportunities.
We use a topic based approach around stories. Grammar and vocabulary are developed through rich opportunities to experience English language in a play based environment. This helps each child to develop their understanding of language in a meaningful context. Phonics and pronunciation are integrated informally throughout the course.
Our course aims to develop your child's:
- confidence when speaking English to the whole class, in small groups and one to one with the teacher and teaching assistant
- ability to sing a range of topic based songs and to match actions with lyrics.
- ability to listen and respond to stories, poems, songs and short video excerpts
- listening skills in terms of following instructions and listening attentively to each other during circle-time
- exposure to and understanding of the reading and writing processes
- Ability to produce simple writing such as their name or single words.
- vocabulary and language awareness and encourages them to use new words and structures in their speaking and writing
Each course builds and develops young children's language skills and knowledge through a range of age appropriate course materials, topics and activities.
Demonstrating Progress
For K1, at the end of each semester your child will receive a Certificate of attendance if they have attended 75% of the classes.
For K2, at the end of each semester your child will receive a report if they have attended 75% of the classes. The report assessments cover three areas of development:
- Spoken Language
- Listening skills
- Interaction with adults and peers
Working in Partnership
We understand that you want to be involved in and support your child’s learning. To this end we have created an outline of the roles and responsibilities of all those involved in the learning process. .
