This course is designed for candidates taking the DSE in 2012.
This course focuses on all the tasks in the exam papers - Reading, Writing, Listening and Integrated Skills and Speaking. Intensive analysis and guided practice of all these papers will help students become more familiar with the DSE exam as well as developing their English language skills. We offer the course at Intermediate and Upper Intermediate levels and the guidance and support of qualified and experienced teachers will help students get the best grades they can. We provide regular opportunities for timed practice exam tasks to allow students to face this challenging exam with renewed confidence and improved language skills.
We offer the course at Intermediate and Upper Intermediate levels. On the course, students will:
- study typical texts and questions used in each paper and consider and note their language patterns
- analyse and reflect on well-crafted answers across all the papers
- have guided practice in using strategies and tactics for approaching each of the papers as well as timed practice and individual feedback
- sit timed mock practice papers towards the end of Semester A
- receive regular feedback and an individual counselling session on their strengths and areas for development across the papers.
Our course aims to help students develop:
- greater familiarity with what to expect in the exam through analysis of the texts used in the papers, including length, formality, staging, purpose and audience
- confidence in approaching a wide range of questions through guided practice of typical tasks
- word accumulation and recording skills as well as an awareness of language patterns.
We regularly evaluate students’ progress through continuous assessment. In addition to this, our students complete at least one assessment task for each paper across the semester.
A report is sent home to all students who have attended 75% of classes. Grades are awarded for performance, participation and effort. The teacher will also write a comment, highlighting ways the student can improve exam performance and general English.
We understand that you want to be involved in and support your child’s learning. To this end we have created an outline of the roles and responsibilities of all those involved in the learning process.
We are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment in which children are supported to achieve their potential in a spirit of inclusion and acceptance. We value the abilities and achievements of all our pupils and recognise that parents hold key information and knowledge of their child.
If your child has a specific educational (or medical) need, please share this knowledge before registration.
A placement test will be required for new students before registration in order to determine their English level. A course counsellor will then help select the course most suited to their English level. Test results are valid for six months.
