General English Focus Courses
Focus your study on a particular area

These courses help you develop one particular skill or language area.

You can study a General English Focus course on its own or combine it with a General English course for more intensive language development. There are two modules of 27 hours, so you complete one course in 54 hours.

Focus on Listening and Speaking

The better your spoken English, the better your comprehension.

These courses exploit the link between these two skills. The goals of each course are to help you:

  • develop your spoken fluency and pronunciation
  • expand your vocabulary, including knowledge and use of collocations, phrases and idioms
  • develop your listening skills
  • develop your language learning strategies

Focus on Grammar

Understanding how grammar affects meaning and how it is often an issue of choice rather than just about following rules will help you to get across your message clearly and precisely. These courses will help you:

  • develop confidence in using grammar, in speaking and writing, to communicate more accurately and effectively
  • work out grammar rules by yourself
  • understand grammatical terminology and improve your study skills.

You will also have free access to our self-study centre on the 3rd floor of our Admiralty centre. It contains a variety of materials, including CD-ROMs, videos, audiotapes and books.
