Whether you are studying, working or keeping up with friends, clear and correct English is important to make a good impression. These shorter courses help you prepare for life in an English-speaking world. You will apply the new skills, grammar and vocabulary to real-world situations. Activities based around the themes of social, travel, work and study will really help you feel sure of the English you use in everyday life.
You will boost your confidence for travelling, studying, working or chatting with English speaking friends by:
- learning phrases for different situations - from booking a hotel room to taking a phone call at work
- applying what you've learnt with regular grammar reminders
- improving your pronunciation.
For further details, please refer to the course outlines.

You will work towards the following learning outcomes:
- speak in a variety of situations, such as social events, overseas travel and the workplace
- take part in role-play and discussion activities which encourage you to practise common expressions in authentic situations.
Your teacher monitors your progress with speaking and listening tasks during the course.
You receive an attendance certificate if you attend at least 75% of lessons and complete assessments successfully.
To register for your first British Council adult course you will need to take a placement test to assess your current level of English. A course counsellor will then help you select the course most suited to your needs and English level.
