About This Course

The course consists of one term helping you

  • become familiar with the format and content of the exam
  • develop exam strategies to maximise your potential
  • identify your strengths and areas for development

Although the main focus is on the academic module, if you intend to take the general paper your teacher will give support with the relevant papers.

Course Objectives

You will work towards the following learning outcomes:

Be better able to:

  • tackle each task type
  • skim and scan reading texts to find information
  • identify what is required by writing tasks
  • organise and structure essays to present information in your own words (task 1)
  • present a point of view, argument or problem (task 2)
  • prepare and talk about personal information and general topics at length
  • engage in a discussion on more abstract issues

Course Content

The course book is Insight into IELTS. Your teacher will select the most relevant material from the book and supplement it to make lessons relevant and stimulating.

You will also have free access to our self-study centre on the 3rd floor of our Admiralty centre. It contains a variety of materials, including CD-ROMs, videos, audiotapes and books.

Demonstrating Progress

There is no formal assessment. You will, however, have the opportunity to do practice papers towards the end of each part of the course to identify your strengths and areas to work on. The teacher will continually assess your performance and progress based on class work and homework. On completion of both modules of the course, if you have attended at least 75% of the classes, you will receive a certificate and a report in which the teacher will comment on and grade your performance.
