Placement test and counselling To register for your first British Council adult course you will take a placement test to assess your current level of English. A course counsellor will then help you select the course most suited to your needs and English level.
If your language competency is stronger than our level 8, we will not be able to place you in a suitable class.

Demonstrating Progress Assessment and Counselling Your teacher will give you a number of assessed speaking tasks based on the core objectives of the course and help you assess your performance.
Your teacher will give you feedback on one assessed writing task. Regular language tests will help you consolidate what you have learned.
There is an opportunity for you to discuss your class performance and progress with your teacher in a counselling session in the middle of each semester.
For semester B courses your performance and teacher’s recommendation will determine whether you move to the next level.
End of semester report and certificate At the end of each semester you will receive a report on your progress, areas for improvement and advice for future studies. You will receive a certificate at the end of the semester if you have attended at least 75% of the classes and satisfactorily completed all relevant assessments.
Facilities for students You will have free access to our self-study centre on the 3rd floor of our Admiralty centre. It contains a variety of materials, including CD-ROMs, videos, audiotapes and books.
