About This Course

If you have not studied English before and do not know the English alphabet this is the course for you. It consists of 27 hours over 9 weeks.

Course Objectives

You will work towards the following learning outcomes:

Speaking

  • ask and answer basic personal questions
  • say the days of the week, months of the year and tell the time
  • identify and ask about items of food and drink

Writing

  • write the letters of the alphabet
  • write simple items of vocabulary

Listening

  • understand simple classroom instructions
  • understand short, simple telephone messages

Reading

  • understand short simple sentences
  • understand simple notices

Course Content

The course book is Step into English. Your teacher will select the most relevant material from the book and supplement it to make lessons relevant and stimulating.

Demonstrating Progress

Continuous Assessment and Counselling
During the course your teacher will set speaking and writing tasks in class and advise you on your progress and future studies.

End of semester report and certificate
At the end of GE1, you will receive a report on your progress and areas for improvement. You will receive a certificate if you have attended at least 75% of the classes and satisfactorily completed the course assessments.
