Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA)

The HKAPA offers one of the most comprehensive performing, technical and media arts programmes in the region as well as excellent performance venues. It comprises six schools/disciplines: dance, drama, film and television, music, theatre and entertainment arts, and Chinese traditional theatre. Both western and Chinese traditions are emphasised. The academy is centrally located in the Wanchai area of Hong Kong Island, with easy access to all parts of the city.

The academy has a total student body of 700. Non-local students, including full-time, exchange and visiting students, comprise about 10 per cent. The exchange programme is currently very small. However, links with other institutions are welcomed.

Overseas students mainly take programmes in music, dance and technical arts schools as drama involves fluency in Cantonese. Undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are available. Visiting students, who normally stay for one year, are recruited to complement the needs of the school, for example  if a particular orchestral instrumentalist is required.

International applicants are recommended to submit application forms as soon as possible so that auditions or submission of audition tapes can be arranged. Assistance in finding accommodation is provided. There are no special Cantonese or Putonghua language classes for overseas students.
